Verena Brakonier, (born in Koblenz, Germany) has a working class background and graduated her dance studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and was a guest student at the physical theatre department.
Most of the time she works in collaborative structures and developed several Solo works.
Amongst others she has worked with Martin Nachbar, Antje Pfundtner, Alexandre Achour, Jonas Woltemate and Trajal Harrell and performed in several Festivals as Tanz im August (Berlin), Ruhrtriennale (Essen) and ImpulsTanz (Vienna).
She is involved in cultural – political contexts in Hamburg and was a member of the Megafonchor (only women megaphone choir performing at demonstrations) led by Sylvi Kretzschmar. She supports the Schwabinggrad Ballet, an agitprop activist-artist collective together with the Group of Lampedusa Hamburg. Aswell she takes care of the Probebühne im Gängeviertel (a rehearsal space, at a former occupied building).
2013 she was a scholarship holder at danceWEB, ImpulsTanz Vienna.
Afterwards she has been an artist in residency for 8 month at K3 – Zentrum für Choreographie | Tanzplan Hamburg and showed her Solo "Sprachloch". Since 2016 she is working as well as a somatic coach and researches about mental health in artistic processes and classism in the cultural field. She is living in Hamburg since 8 years.
